Where We Started ...
The Rehoboth Children's Home is a non-government child caring agency in coordination with the Department of Social Welfare and Development. The home is operated by Asian Hope Missionary Outreach, a non-profit relief organization originally founded in Perth, Western Australia in 1989. It is a ministry born from a vision given by God to Bob and Barbara Morriss to provide a safe haven for destitute children in the Philippines. The Home has been operational since June 2003.
Here is a brief outline of the way that God has provided in every way for Rehoboth Children's Home.
- 1989, Bob and Barbara Morriss had the vision planted in their hearts for a home for orphaned children in the Philippines and begin fund raising for this effort.
- In early 1990, Christ to the Philippines offers the use of land. With the help of local labor, Bob and Barbara were able to get the land cleared.
- There were many opportunities to give up on this vision. But, after years of seeking guidance, fund raising and seeming shortfalls, in 2000, the first stage of construction commenced.
- Mid 2000 sees Sacred Portion, a US based child caring ministry (www.sacredportion.org), come along side Bob and Barbara and provide much needed help in this project.
- October 2000, the first team from Sacred Portion arrives to help with the building process. More teams and continued financial and prayerful assistance are now regularly provided by Sacred Portion.
- June 2003 sees the admittance of Rehoboth's first 3 children, Joel, Matthew and Lea. The Early Learning Centre also opens. This is a preschool that provides educationally for the older children of Rehoboth as well as selected local needy children.
- Rehoboth Children's Home is officially dedicated on the 19th of July, 2003. This ceremony is attended by local dignitaries as well as Craig and Jan Druckenmiller from Sacred Portion in the US.
- In June 2005, Rehoboth hires a full time social worker which helps speed up the processing and matching of the children with their forever families.
- July 2005, Rehoboth's first three children are matched with their forever families.
- Today, under the guidance of Jan Druckenmiller and Fe Canlas, the staff of 18 cares for 24 children. These staff work with a heart that seeks to do God's will and purpose in providing these children a safe and nurturing home until they are matched with their families.
